ASTM A-325 TYPE-3
This specification is applicable to heavy hex structural bolts only.
The bolts are intended for use in structural connections. These connections are comparable to those covered under the requirements of the Specification for Structural Joints Using High-Strength Bolts, approved by the Research Council on Structural Connections; endorsed by the American Institute of Steel Construction and by the Industrial Fastener Institute.
- The bolts are furnished in sizes 1⁄2 to 11⁄2 in., inclusive.
- These high strength fasteners have atmospheric corrosion resistance and weathering properties. This means that Type 3 structural bolts are designed to weather and rust over time.
- Type 3 is chemical composition is denoted by Weathering Steel.
- A325 Type 3 Chemical Properties.
A, B, C, D, E, and F are classes of material used for Type 3 bolt. Selection of a class shall be the option of the bolt manufacturer.
#These element are not specified or required.
- Type 3 bolts shall be quenched only in oil from the austenitizing temperature
Hardness-The bolts shall conform to the hardness specified is as followed
1⁄2 to 1, incl- Max 35 HRC
11⁄8 to 11⁄2, incl- Max 30 HRC.- The bolts shall conform to the dimensions for heavy hex structural bolts specified in ASME B18.2.6.
